JOB POSTING: Indigenous Tourism Coordinator

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Community Futures Shuswap, the Indigenous Tourism Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the two year Indigenous Tourism Strategy for the Lakes Communities of the Shuswap Region.

The position will be a part-time, contract position for a two year period. It will be remotely located within the Shuswap. (eg. No office space will be provided).

The Strategy is a collaboration between the Secwepemc Communities of Neskonlith, Adams Lake and Splats’in in the Shuswap Region of British Columbia and is supported by Community Futures Shuswap, Shuswap Tourism and the Province of BC. The position provides a high level of community/customer service to promote long-term Indigenous tourism product development in the region.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, Elders, Elected Officials and community members in a culturally sensitive manner.

  • Experience in the tourism sector, specifically with tourism product development. Indigenous tourism sub-sector experience preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills. The ability to interact with people in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.

  • Exceptional time management skills and organizational skills.

  • The ability to work with limited supervision and a high degree of independence from various locations within the region.

  • The ability to travel, locally and regionally and to work as needed to meet contract deliverables including evenings and weekends as required.

Preference may be given to qualified Indigenous applicants as per Section 7 of the Employment Equity Act.
